Bordered on one side by the Gallatin River, Manhattan is made for those who love recreational activities outdoors. People from all over come for the blue-ribbon trout fishing in the river and streams. The area is famous for white-water rafting, hiking, horseback riding, and hunting. Manhattan is connected to Headwaters State Park via the Headwaters Trail System, which is excellent for hiking or biking.
Manhattan offers many options for housing. Downtown is a mix of modern luxury condominiums and older western architecture. Just outside of downtown are planned suburban communities with single-family homes. And further out, Gallatin River Ranch is a 5,900-acre residential ranch community. Residents have direct access to Gallatin River and views of Horseshoe Hills, Bridger Range, and the Spanish Peak Wilderness.

Local Lifestyle - Living in Manhattan
Manhattan is a small town with a tight-knit community. Residents plan and partake in events all year long. It’s full of country and western charm. The large ranch estates and surrounding national forests give it a definite rural and outdoorsy vibe while providing a sense of year-round retreat.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
You’ll find shops, restaurants, and bars lining up Main Street downtown. You can also drive up to Three Forks or down to Belgrade for more choices. Each town is less than 15 minutes away. Sir Scott's Oasis Steakhouse is a local staple, serving homestyle steaks and seafood dishes in a casual setting. The Bar at Tailored and Tied is a cafe, bar, event space, and design shop all in one. Broken Arrow and American Legion Post 87 are great little dive bars to check out.
For morning coffee, Camp Creek Coffee Bar has coffee, tea, paninis, and ice cream, and Broadway Brew is highly rated for their coffee and hot chocolate. For all-day diner fare, The Porch at Nogans is highly rated for their food and service. For pizza, Wheelers Pies has delightful, hand-tossed pies with names inspired by the owner's love for offroading and the outdoors. For fine dining, Pompey’s Grill in Three Forks is considered one of the best steakhouses in Montana. They serve locally-sourced steaks, seafood, and handcrafted cocktails in an upscale setting. Or you can go to Mint Café and Bar, a steakhouse and local landmark in Belgrade, specializing in elevated American fare.
There are shops downtown showcasing unique items and wood carvings from local artists and artisans. The Upstairs Apothecary has skin care, unique gifts, and beauty products. For groceries, L and F Market sells meats, produce, and homemade desserts. In addition, the Belgrade Community Farmers’ Market has local produce and artisanal vendors on Thursdays.
Things to Do in Manhattan
Railroad Park runs right along Main Street and is a lovely green space with picnic tables. Taylor Park is centrally located and has baseball fields and a playground. Just a short drive away are the incredibly beautiful Yellowstone National Park and Madison Buffalo Jump State Park, an archeological site and National Historic Landmark. The unique limestone formations at Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park and world-class skiing at Big Sky Resort and Bridger Bowl are all easily accessible.
Not to be missed is the annual Potato Festival, which starts with a Fireman’s Breakfast, followed by a tent sale, a parade, a 5K run, a car show, activities, live music, and entertainment. Other community events include the Christmas Stroll and the 4th of July celebrations.
